What is Computing?

Computers are everywhere in the 21st century. Cars, small businesses, cell phones, sports teams — nearly every facet of modern society depends on computers to run smoothly and efficiently. On one level, computing is simply using a cell phone to text a friend or a laptop to balance a budget. On another level, it is designing text messaging software for a cell phone or improving the interface of a budgeting program. People who work in computing fields do everything from setting up workstations to setting up global communication networks. They create applications that automatically update the time and date on PDAs and the software for the latest video game. Their work could help farmers plan crop rotations or improve battery life on MP3 players. The opportunities are endless, and only growing as our technology economy develops. The choice of computing studies is the choice of the future.
