I was only 3 1/2 yrs old when Kennedy as shot, so I remember it
vaguely- I remember the grief we felt in the US (my mother,
naturally, and people in Cambridge, Kennedy's home Congressional
& Senatorial districts) was far greater than I am seeing now,
even with all the candles and stuff, although I suppose in Britain
their feelings are closer to what was felt here in 1963.
But the world was less jaded then- it was a shock for the first American
president fully in the television age to be gunned down on television-
by now, we are almost desensitized to violence.
Our daughter Elisabeth was born June 22 1995, one day after
William's 13th birthday, so that is another odd link between US
(Why us? Why do we *ALL* feel that Diana was "one of us"??)
and the Spencers/Windsors. She is just a little over 2 years old now-
I want to take her to the British Embassy so that she may also have
some vague memories about a special day when some famous person died-
although she is too young to understand, maybe having pictures of the
event and talking about it will allow her to remember it years from now.
