In the aftermath of a week of mourning, these thoughts...A long time ago I said that when William becomes King, he will be "worshipped" by forms of "idolatry" that we have not seen since Roman times. Diana was "worshipped" in this way, and a legendary "Goddess-like" persona was created for her by the media. The MEDIA itself, television in particular, may be the "false prophet" of Revelation 13:15, rather than a particular person. "For he shall have the power to give life to the IMAGE of the beast, that the image of the beast should SPEAK, and cause that as many as would not worship the IMAGE of the beast should be killed." Reading the tributes that I have seen on many web pages, only makes me feel that what I had said is coming true. I never predicted that it would come true so tragically as it did. Seeing the world's reaction to Diana's death, is it that hard to believe that in ancient times, long before television, the common person idolized and worshipped their leaders or emperors like Gods? Caesar's exploits were not televised, they were transmitted by word of mouth, told and retold as legends, and copied down by scribes, the most advanced form of communication available at the time. Temples were erected in his name. When he got to considering HIMSELF to be a god, that was when his closest advisors saw that it had gone to his head and things had gone too far. He could no longer be trusted, he could no longer be controlled by the Roman Senate- he became a THREAT because they could not guess his next move, and he was becoming so wildly popular to the common Roman citizen, that he could have turned on them at any time, and the mob would have backed him against the Senate. Even after the royal divorce and the removal of the "HRH" title, Diana still fancied herself to be a "good will ambassador" for Britain, and the media saw her as such. But the British Royals saw her as a threat- she was not under their control, but was acting on their behalf, even though it was charity work. When the likelihood of her marrying into the Fayed family, the owners of Harrods, and Arab arms dealers- while still carrying on as the ex-Princess and Ambassador at large- it was not meant to be, it was too much to bear. In the famous BBC interview, in which Diana spoke of herself as the "Queen of Hearts" the key issues are all there; the interviewer asked "At WHOSE BEHEST do you call youself an ambassador"? Diana replied, (my paraphrasing again) "at whose behest do the photograhers follow me everywhere I go? This is an awesome power and responsibility that can not be ignored." After Caesar's death, Halley's comet appeared, and the common person took it to be Caesar's soul ascending to heaven. Elton John, much more metaphorically, writes to Diana ... "Now you belong to heaven and the stars spell out your name." Go here for Full Lyrics Caesar was declared to be a god AFTER his death by the Roman masses- and thus immortal. After that, more temples were built in his honor, other great public buldings were named after him. I heard on the radio this morning that there is a movement to have Heathrow Airport renamed to "Princess of Wales" airport. I don't like it, personally; I think it would be more fitting to name something of BEAUTY after her, rather than a place that perpetuates the dehumanzing experience that air travel has become. This is not that far from what happened after John F Kennedy's death in 1963- seems that every new school or public building built in the late 1960's was named "John F Kennedy High School" or whatever, at least here in the States. Diana was 36 years old- the same age as Marilyn Monroe when she died.
The Diana Conspiracy
But I think Diana is linked more with John Kennedy than Marilyn for many reasons. Diana was cut down in her prime, as was JFK, at a time when she seemed on the verge of many more great changes and things that would have changed the world, as was JFK; whereas Marilyn was depressed and comitted suicide as her stardom faded. There are all kinds of mysteries concerning the way they died, and the true cause; the stories that the paparazzi were chasing the car, or that the driver was drunk- these are like the "single bullet theory" of the Warren Commission. There are inconsistencies in the reports from the hospital on how long it took for her to be freed from the wreckage and how long they tried to revive her at the hospital- just as the inconsistencies in the Kennedy autopsy and the handling of the body enroute to burial are legendary. The investigation will go on for months and years. There are a LOT of conspiracy theories buzzing around the net- there could have been any number of people who wanted her dead, for some of the reasons mentioned above. And there are any number of ways the car could have been made to crash. Most of the mystery is probably caused by the MEDIA handling of the facts- as we already know, the media is so sloppy in checking its facts that they release tidbits of rumors as if they were true- what is being debated is the order of events as they were REPORTED, rather than as they actually happened. While Diana had rejected British security protection (it would have been like inviting a royal spy to follow her every move) she was probably under surveillance without her knowledge, because she could have been a target for kidnapping or terrorism. It is ironic that the crash took place on the same night that Dodi had proposed to her, and had purchased a $200,000 ring. That will also be the subject of much speculation for conspiracy theorists, similar in some ways to the story that Bobby Kennedy visited Marilyn on the night of her death. When the people who were watching her, for whatever reason, learned of the proposal, and transmitted that back to their superiors (some "grey haired" royalist in the Queen's entourage? Or as high as the Queen herself?) they were given the order to "terminate"- all speculation of course, none of which can ever be proven. Chris M
