It was
a dark and stormy night. Actually, it was a very nice day in Philadelphia,
not bad at all for walking around at mid-afternoon in full-length black
gowns. Armed once again with his trusty Fuji FinePix 700, your fearless
photographer recorded these images of computer science students, ummm... commencing.
Noteworthy
among these images are: the only Ph.D. student who did not need to
kneel when being hooded, a couple of people with way too many honor
cords, a standing ovation for an award-winning faculty member, a student
and his high-school mentor, Drexel's first undergraduate software engineering
student (next year, we're going to find one with pants), the
official computer science fingernail design, a picture of President
Papadakis and Vice-Provost DiNardo (onto which you can superimpose
your own image, receiving your degree), and the student most likely
to yell "Sic semper tyrannis!" in a crowded building. Students
wearing white silk stoles are members of Upsilon
Pi Epsilon, the International Honor Society for the Computing and
Information Disciplines.
It's been
a pleasure, folks -- and a special treat for me when they told all
the degree candidates to stand. It was the first time I had seen that
many of you (a) paying attention and (b) following directions!
Inscrutably,
JL Popyack
