Textbook: Computer Fluency for the Masses (2nd Edition) by Jeff Salvage (DO NOT BUY THE 1ST EDITION! It has changed dramatically)

Course Description:

CS 161 introduces students using the Microsoft Office 2007 suite to a wide range of computer skills taking them from basic knowledge that most students have to a fluency desired by most employers. In addition, students will gain an understanding of the concepts behind the applications.

Course Objective:

The goal of CS 161 is to introduce students to a variety of compute technologies in a fun and engaging manner. This class assumes that you are computer literate, but not necessarily fluent. A literate person understands the basic operations of a computer. Skills like sending an email, write a basic document, and surfing the Internet should already be within a students comfort zone. This course builds on those basic skills to increase your knowledge and covert you to a power user. You will learn how to find help in various applications, create reference and perform a mail merge documents in Microsoft Word, learn simple and complex concepts of Microsoft Power Point, develop charts and advanced spreadsheets using excel as well as becoming a more knowledgeable Internet User.

Labs must be done at your assigned time. If you know you will miss a lab in advance, you can reschedule with the TA.  DO NOT DO THE ASSIGNMENT AND EMAIL IT. We get way too many students trying to cheat this way. If you are caught cheating, you may fail the course. This decision will be made by the lecturer.
