Morality. It is a bitch.
You know, I was just reading through Kenneth Starr's report on the sexual encounters between Mr. William Jefferson Clinton and Ms. Monica Lewinsky. Let me tell you, at times it reads better than some of the stories in an edition of Playboy magazine. If I saw the phrase "she performed oral sex on him" one more time...JESUS! I'll say one thing for Billy, he sure gets some.
Now I would not have had a problem with this fact. Not in the least bit. This is truly where the line is drawn over what is moral and what is not. There is the liberal and the more conservative sides to the line. Some of the more staunch conservative types (e.g. those that may live in the "Bible Belt" of the country) are probably up in arms over all of this. Personally, I tend to side on the more liberal side.

I could truly care less if Bill Clinton was having an affair with an intern. There are records of MANY presidents partaking in some of the perks of the Office. George Washington has been nicknamed "the father of our country." It could be a very a propos name being that Washington might have fathered seventeen bastard children. Thomas Jefferson had a 38 year long affair with a slave that was his wife's half-sister. Martin Van Buren, James Garfield, Grover Cleveland, Warren G. Harding, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Dwight Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy and Lyndon Baines Johnson have all be caught having affairs. Even Jimmy Carter admitted to commiting adultery in his heart. So what makes Bill Clinton different(aside from the fact that he has been linked to having extra-marital affairs with 26 different women)?
Well, there is the fact that the elected president of our country has a moral responsiblity to represent the citizens of the United States of America. Whereas some people may not get too crazy about moral issues, there is a VERY LARGE percentage of people that do REGARDLESS of religion, background or race. Our president has been charged with representing these people and being a leadership figure. Someone to look up to. Someone to be respected. Someone to point to and say "That's our leader." And I am not just talking about when aliens land in a corn field.
Probably the biggest deal to me is the fact that President Bill Clinton LIED to the American people. I could have dealt with his infidelity had he came clean with it right off the bat. That would have been a problem that he would have had to deal with personally with his wife and daughter. He has that right regarless of his charge. He has the right to a personal life as he stated to the country in a televised address. That's fine with me. However...
"I did not have sexual relations with that woman."
With that one quote, Bill Clinton sealed his fate. He screws around for WEEKS with Lewinsky in his private study, in the Chief of Staff's office, in the Oval Office...whereever...and then LIES to EVERYONE about the entire affair. Come on now Bill. Did you ACTUALLY THINK you were going to get away with all of this? Everyone saw Monica coming over to the West Wing on weekends when no one else was around. Oh yeah, she was bringing you papers and pizza. But she was also bringing other gifts. Like Hugo Boss ties and blowjobs...I'll take either or both but that's not the point.
The point is that a leader does not deceive the people he is supposed to be leading. A leader is honest and open. A leader shows the people that they can trust him. A leader leads by example. Bill failed to qualify for each of those characteristics.
On a much lighter note, I have one more problem with Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky. Here is the most powerful man in the world. If he chooses to cheat on his wife, he could have his pick of ANY woman on the planet.
AND HE CHOOSES MONICA LEWINSKY?!?!? SHE'S HEINOUS!!
Come ON Bill. JFK had Marilyn Monroe! Granted she had a big ass, but she liked to stand over vents!!! You have hot women all over the place and you choose MONICA LEWINSKY!! The shadow of her ass would weigh twenty pounds! If anything, THAT makes me the MOST salty.
Now that I have gotten that out of my system, one question remains. Should he be impeached? I don't necessarily know. He has been charged, in Ken Starr's report, of being in violation of ELEVEN impeachable offenses including getting people to lie under oath and impeding justice. I do know one thing however. He hurt the American people. He betrayed all of us. He gave us all a black eye.
And for that he must be held accountable.
