Writing guidelines

  • Grammar you should know by now
    • that, which, and who
    • fewer and less
    • good and well
    • to, too, and two
    • its and it's
  • Use spellcheck - misspellings will not be tolerated

Document guidelines

All documents must adhere to the following requirements.

  • Page numbers
  • Hierarchical titles and subtitles
  • Labeled figures and tables
  • Cover page
  • Table of contents
  • Both approval and pledge sheets
  • No smeared inkjet printouts (use a laser for b/w, crisp inkjet if you need color)
  • Pages must be securely fastened - buy several boxes of different sized binder clips

Presentation guidelines

  • Don't use ugly backgrounds (most of PowerPoint's are horrible)
  • Typefaces must be 28pt or larger

Web guidelines

  • Do not use background images
  • Background color should be in the range #FFFFFF (white) to #DDDDDD (light grey), preferably white
  • The browser's default font colors should be used
  • Consistent headers, footers, and navigation elements on each page - using SSI would be a good idea
  • Links to "presentations", "documents", and "team info" should be clearly available on all pages
  • No animated gifs
  • No java, javascript, flash, shockwave, etc.
  • No browser specific code
  • No broken links
