Welcome!

2011-06-09: Hi Everyone,

We hope your final exams were successful and that you will enjoy the term break!

Your final grades will be posted on bbVista and available for your review on Friday at noon. The course median grade was approximately 89%. Please review your grade and contact your instructor no later than Monday, 6/13 at noon with any issues or questions. Grades will be submitted to Banner on Tuesday, and there will be no "change of grade" considerations for issues which can be identified at this time!

The grade calculation is as follows:

1. Averages for the labs, quizzes and quizlets were computed on a 100% basis. Even though individual labs, quizzes and quizlets may have different raw score values, all were equally weighted in the calculation.

2. The proficiency exam Q and C scores were translated to a 100% basis (Q exam worth 40% of grade and C exam worth 60%)

3. Agreed upon adjustments (for excused labs, quizzes and quizlets) were applied so that the averages on the the labs, quizzes and quizlets were based on those for which you had grades.

4. The final score (100% basis) was computed:

Final score = 0.36 * lab score + 0.20 * quiz score + 0.08 * quizlet score + 0.36 * proficiency exam score

5. A 2% bonus was then applied to the final score for students who submitted course evaluations. Also, students who attended all 4 extra consultation session will receive a 4% bonus.

6. Finally, final scores were mapped to grades as follows:

96.5 + A+

92.5 + A

89.5 + A-

86.5 + B+

82.5 + B

79.5 + B-

76.5 + C+

72.5 + C

69.5 + C-

65.5 + D+

49.5 + D

less than 49.5 F

2011-04-28: Hi Everyone,

We suggest that you complete quiz 2 prior to trying the lab 3 quizlet (since only 1 quiz can be open at a time in MapleTA).

Good luck in lab next week.

2011-04-26: Hi Everyone,

A number of students have reported an issue with quiz 2. We have identified it, but in order to resolve, the following process must take place:

1. The original quiz 2 has been closed.

2. A new quiz 2 (CS123 Spring 2011 Quiz 2 Revised Extended Time) has been opened and is now available. It will remain open through Sunday (5/1) until 11 PM. There will not be a makeup exam for this cycle.

The new quiz 2 will contain a new "question 2". If you got the correct answer for the original question 2, it is NOT necessary to do the new question 2.

3. The grades for these 2 quizzes will be combined. If you have completed any questions on the original quiz before it was closed, you do not need to re-do these questions!

Example - a student completed questions 2 and 4 on the original quiz. That student only needs to do questions 1 and 3 on the revised quiz.

Sorry for the confusion and issue.

The cs123 Instructors
