Below are links to ten talks presented at the world conference ARCHIMEDES IN THE 21ST CENTURY held on 31 May – 1 June 2013 at the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences of New York University. The Conference, organized and chaired by Chris Rorres, paid tribute to Archimedes, the greatest geometer/scientist/engineer of antiquity. Rather than go back in time to celebrate the achievements of Archimedes within the framework of ancient technology, the invited speakers celebrated the myriad ways in which Archimedes’ lifework, principles, and inventions are being applied today—23 centuries after his lifetime.

The Proceedings of the Conference have been published by Birkhäuser Science (Springer International Publishing AG) and are available through their web site. You can also view an article about the Conference that appeared in THE NEW YORK TIMES.

The year of the Conference marked the 2300th anniversary of the birth of Archimedes (born circa 287 BC). The 2013 Italian stamp on the right celebrates this Year of Archimedes (Anno Archimedeo).
