Abstract:
Limb amputation is one of the oldest surgeries, which is performed only in case of failure of more conservative methods of treatment. Providing prosthetics is the final stage after amputation to normal life. It is preceded by a long rehabilitation process and compression therapy with soft textile covers is its main procedure. Design of advanced compression covers requires high conformity to the remaining limb's shape and length. The goal of this work is to develop an algorithm for developing a functional compression cover based on scan data. The MOVE4D system was used for scanning and mesh cloud creation. ParaView software was used for planar sectioning and for girth measurements for legs between the ankle and the knee. Python scripting Software inside of ParaView was created to automatically calculate the girth at every step. At the next stage, the correlation between sizes of a standard stocking and a real limb was studied and an analysis was done to identify the personal cover with the best possible fitting and comfort. This finding will simplify the future development of a technology for knitting a personal compression cover for both normal and amputated limbs.
